was waiting on our porch! I had no idea anything was wrong... and then there was knocking on the bedroom windows... and then the back door. So I look out the back door and Patrick is standing there in the dark yelling at me to close the front door. ...Ya ok, you opened it, you weird-o.... But before I could even ask him why he was in the backyard he yelled "There's a rattle snake on the front porch." I'm pretty sure that was the fastest I have ever ran in my life! (He made fun of me later for taking off so fast.) We both went out front through the garage, armed with a shovel and a hose. (I stayed on the rock in the yard, it felt safer!... which he also teased me about!)
We sprayed it and rocked it (because the smartest plan is to make the poisonous snake really angry before you try to kill it... but we were hoping it would move enough for Patrick to have a clean shot)... it wasn't going anywhere. At that point Patrick decided to get brave. He sent me in the house and had me shut the garage door. And I waited. And when I looked out the front window a couple minutes later... Patrick was on the big rock in the yard. haha. (I was totally laughing at him, he saw me and laughed too!) That's when he had me call our neighbor, apparently he was running out of courage. Darin arrived with another shovel... and some skill... in shorts no less. I watched and listened from the front window, it was actually pretty funny to listen to. And as soon as I heard Patrick tell Darin "that was a clean hit", and he was smiling, I bolted back out the garage door to see the carnage! (He was a little over 2 feet long.)
He shouldn't have come to our house... he'd probably still have a head. Ewwwww!

Holy Crap! I probably would have peed my pants! The only thing we have encountered on our porch was a dead bunny. You have me totally creeped out now!
I saw the pictures on facebook but to read the story is way funny! I can totally see Patrick standing on the rock with a big grin on his face. I think we need a picture of that on here!!! I'm glad it all turned out okay and nobody got hurt. But seriously - MOVE!!
I am so glad your husband was home. Yucky!!!
Oh my gosh that's the craziest story ever..I hate snakes...even reading this I was scared the whole time! Man you get some of the weirdest creatures where you live. I can't wait to see what's next...
Never had that happen in West Point... just saying. ;) Although I loved the making it really mad part... made me laugh. And major props to Patrick... even if he did "hide" on the rock.
Scorpion (check), rattlesnake (check), What does that leave??
OMG! I would seriously DIE! Note to self: don't visit Jenn...she has rattlesnakes & scorpions at her house. Both things I don't think I could handle! Props to hubby for saving the day!
I was laughing so hard to myself but also vowing i would never live in AZ! Yikes! I think you should put his head on a stick and leave it in your yard to warn all others!
I had goosebumps as soon as I saw that picture!! I would have totally freaked out and probably not have used my front door for a long time:) I really hope we won't have to deal with snakes - they totally freak me out!!!! I'm glad no one was hurt:)
You should have tazed that snake!
There's easier ways to get rid of solicitors Jenn!;) I don't mind snakes, but that sucker was big! Way to save the day Patrick:) For future, you might want to get one of those snake sticks...
Oh, I forgot to ask...Did ya eat it? Rattlesnake is gooood;)! Seriously!
I read this to York and we both laughed so hard! York would have pee'd his pants and then passed out if he saw that on our front porch! Good job getting rid of the beast!
HOOOLLY SCHMOOOLLYY!!!! The picture coiled up on your porch freaks me out! Way to go Patrick! I know how much you LOVE snakes!!!
